Remember: almost nothing increases the cost of a remodeling project faster than last minute changes to plans, so plan carefully and thoroughly.

Can you keep the existing location for plumbing and major electrical?

Can you reuse existing appliances?

Can you reuse existing bathroom fixtures (e.g., sink, bathtub, toilet, etc.)?

Are you able to remove cabinetry yourself (if it's going to be replaced)?

Do you want to keep your cabinets, but reface them?

Can you reuse your countertops? (Sometimes a solid surfacing, wood or stone countertop can be reused.)

Do you want to do your own painting, wallpapering, etc.?

Do you want to install your own flooring?
